Dr. Ahluwalia earned her MD from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where she graduated with Distinction in Research. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by fellowship training in Cardiovascular Medicine at NYU Langone Health and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ahluwalia is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist with expertise in the management of complex heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, inherited cardiovascular diseases, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She has previously developed and led innovative multidisciplinary programs at large academic institutions.
A nationally recognized clinician-scientist, Dr. Ahluwalia's research focuses on inherited cardiomyopathies, cardiovascular genetics, artificial intelligence applications in cardiovascular medicine, and improving health equity in cardiovascular care. She has served as a principal investigator on multicenter clinical trials and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading cardiovascular journals.
At UCI, as the Director of the Cardiomyopathy Program and Heart Failure Research & Innovation, Dr. Ahluwalia leads the care for patients with advanced cardiomyopathies, collaborates across multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes, and supports the development of clinical, research, educational, and quality improvement initiatives that advance UCI's missions.
